Lausanne completed. Forward to Bern.
No direct trains meant a change over at Zweisimmen. With an hour to kill we went for lunch at the hotel restaurant just opposite the station. We were served by an employee who seemed to have Basil Fawlty levels of patience for incompetent guests. Thankfully, I was wearing my Hives t-shirt which must have given him the impression that we weren’t (totally) clueless tourists, and we talked about concerts he had been to (Muse, Bjork, The Killers to name a few). We ate our soup and schnitzel and witness his barely contained contempt for other patrons who were unhappy with their dish - he had apparently asked them specifically if they had any requirements that they had not divulged.
Transfer train arrived. Unfortunately our booked seats were facing backwards. This and the drunk commuters in the seats in the aisle opposite triggered Ida’s anxiety, so we jumped off at the next stop to calm her nerves.
Calmed, we made our way forward, finally arriving at Bern. We checked into our small, incredibly basic overnight apartment - a tiny space used as a workspace in the day, with a mattress on the floor.
We experienced our first real language barrier of the trip when we went to the Hammam and Spa Oktogon - the signs for how to use each area where written in German, French and Italian - we only found the English instructions on a much smaller plaque as we were heading up to the lounge space at the end of the session. Relaxed we very nearly fell into a deep sleep.
After waking up, we walked through the cobbled streets and over the Nydeggbrücke bridge and up the steep hill to a well earned dinner at the Restaurant Rosengarten.
A gorgeous view of the city could be seen in the evening as the sun set. So obviously I took a photo of the crowd watching it instead.
Sadly, not every location would put a band on just for us (which I’m sure this one was)
Since We Last Spoke…
Been a minute . . .
- We bought a house! In Richmond! Ted Lasso tours go past it! Its nice! We’ll invite you over some time!
- Current job has just started shooting. Working with a lot of the amazing team I was with on Rings of Power. Back in the Digital Assets Manager role. I can’t believe I am paid to look at images of [REDACTED] all day.
- Oh man, so many things. I should try and get this out as a weekly summary at the very least. 7 Months between updates is too long.
Take Care x
